Apple Announces New $99 Apple TV

Apple on Wednesday announced a revamped Apple TV. The new Apple TV is much smaller than the original—an adult can easily hold it in one hand—and will drop dramatically in price to $99.

It will be a very different animal from the previous version, however, relying entirely on streaming paid media for content. ABC and Fox will offers TV shows for 99 cents, while most other shows will cost $2.99. First-run HD movies can be streamed for $4.99. Netflix, YouTube, Flickr, and Mobile Me services will also be offered through the device. You can also stream through your PC.

The all-black unit features HDMI, Ethernet, optical audio, and USB plugs on the back, and looks similar in form factor to the Mac Mini, also a popular living room device offered by Apple.
Apple TV is available for pre-order now through Apple, and will ship later this month.
