It’s been rumored for sometime now that Apple was working on their own variation of a netbook in hopes of competing in this growth market. But unlike existing netbook options, this one will be of the touch screen variety.

Thus far, pricing remains a bit sketchy, as does what it will look like. But there are reports still coming through that it will be priced at about $800. Clearly Apple has no intention of taking the low road, using less than grand hardware. Interesting, as I never really considered their choice of motherboards to be all that fantastic, really.

I guess Apple sees this “netbook” solution as becoming the “Mac Mini” of the portable market. Accessible in price, while yielding less than impressive specifications. Still, I wager this is going to answer the needs of the netbook market, interested in getting away from the typical PC platform as it were.
